Fiber Fusion
~ Page 2 ~
Fiber Fusion is made by bonding loose unspun fibers together
resulting in a lustrous fabric that can be used in almost any kind of art/craft/sewing/quilting project.

Fiber Fusion "fabric" laid over a beige background. This Fiber Fusion is more sheer than most of my others because I used fewer silk fibers than usual, wanting this effect for a sky, as shown in the "Petroglyph Angels" quilt below.

The Fiber Fusion was fused to a blue hand-painted fabric background, with pieces of copper metallic fabric sandwiched in between.
The petroglyph angels and stars were from a printed fabric. I backed the angels and most of the stars with copper metallic fabric, then they were fused to the sky.(Metallic fabrics are available on the Store Page,)
It was free-motion machine quilted with metallic thread and variegated cotton and rayon threads, then finished with a facing, no binding.
Notice how the color of the original Fiber Fusion looks even more sheer when fused to a blue background;
that's because the blues and turquoise in the Fiber Fusion blended so well when fused to the blue sky fabric.
This piece is a work in progress, because I want to add more stars with foiling and then some tiny Swarovski crystals - not too many.
I'll post new photos when it's finished.

Fiber Fusion "fabric" laid over a white background.
I went for swirls when arranging the fibers this time, and the results looked like a nebula.
When I laid it over a sky fabric that looked like outer space,
it was nice without trimming the Fiber Fusion in any way.
See the finished results in "Worlds Without End", below.

The Fiber Fusion was fused to the sky background. At first, this was all I planned to do. Then outside the nebula looked so empty, and I added a few planets. Then I added more planets. The more I added, the better it looked up to a point. I thought the piece looked too "busy", but whenever I took planets away, it looked sparse. So here it is! It does look similar to photos I've seen from the Hubble telescope.
Notice how the color of the original Fiber Fusion altered a little when fused to the sky background;
that's because the blues, pinks and purples in the sky fabric can be seen through the translucent Fiber Fusion.
This piece is not quite finished, wanting to reposition a few planets/galaxies, add more stars with foiling and then perhaps some tiny Swarovski crystals.
At first, I planned to quilt it but didn't think stitching could add anything to the Fiber Fusion nebula.
So instead, it will be wrapped around an a mounted art canvas for a "gallery finish".
I'll post new photos when it's done. Meanwhile, you can see close-ups below.
